Prof. Katja Nelson

Katja Nelson, Dean of Dental Medicine of the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg, serves as a Professor and chair of Translational Implantology in the Medical Center Freiburg. She graduated from the Free University, Berlin, Germany, and was trained as an Oral Surgeon and received her PhD in the Clinic for Oral- and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Charité Campus Virchow, Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany, where she also headed the Department of Implantology and Special Prosthodontics before transferring to the University of Freiburg. She received numerous international/national awards, produced over 200 manuscripts, textbook chapters, and patents. Her clinical focus is the rehabilitation of complex patients with severe bone defects, while her research addresses implant hardware, bone biology and inflammatory reactions surrounding the implant to understand and enhance the performance of implants and bone substitutes.
